GATHER
FAFA brings together people who choose to live in French and participate in Alberta’s francophonie.
It is also part of a network of provincial francophone organizations that contribute to the vitality of the francophone community.
INFORM
FAFA is a one-stop shop for francophone information for Albertans over 50.
It is also their spokesperson to governments, associative partners and the general public.
EQUIP
FAFA contributes to the development of a high-performance provincial network and ensures its inclusiveness and sustainability.
FAFA’s charitable purposes
- Alleviate the conditions attributed to old age by offering Franco-Albertan seniors: formative activities of a social or recreational nature to reduce frailty, social isolation and loneliness.
- Give access to the services of a navigator to assist them in dealing with government services.
- Promote education by providing French-speaking seniors in Alberta with training that enables them to acquire or enrich their knowledge in a variety of fields such as poetry, music, computers, personal finance, literature, history, economics and health.
- Promote the safety of Francophone seniors and young retirees in Alberta, including (but not limited to): physical safety, cyber safety, financial safety, abuse situations, etc.
FAFA IN NUMBERS
Target population
32,000
Between 2016 and 2021, the number of seniors in Canada increased by 18.3%. This “is the second largest increase in 75 years, following that observed from 2011 to 2016” (Statistics Canada). What’s more, according to the 2016 census, the median age of Francophones was 7.5 years older than that of the total population in the province, and Francophones over 50 accounted for around 37% of Alberta’s official language minority population.
Individual members
400
We thank all our members for their continued support. This number does not represent all individual members of all affiliated groups.
Affiliated groups
10+
To best serve Alberta’s 32,000 francophone seniors and young retirees, FAFA relies on regional seniors’ groups. The dedication and skills of these seniors’ ambassadors provide us with invaluable support in setting up each new project. It’s thanks to this presence throughout Alberta that FAFA is able to successfully carry out its regional activities. We realize that it is important for the future to turn as much to supporting our existing groups as to creating and supporting the emergence of new groups to counteract the dissolution of some of our groups in recent years.
