ConnectAînés
For over three years, the ConnectAînés program has been an important tool in the fight against the social and linguistic isolation of Franco-Albertan seniors across the province. What’s more, this program proved as important as ever during the pandemic, when many face-to-face community activities were cancelled until further notice. Developed in close partnership with Seniors’ Center Without Walls (SCWW), the program is funded in part by the Government of Canada’s pan-Canadian New Horizons Program, with support from the FAAFC.
It is offered in both teleconference and videoconference styles, to provide a unique opportunity to bring together francophone and francophile seniors from all corners of the province, participating in the same activities and conversations together despite distance and in the comfort of their own homes.
Other partners in this program include Edmonton Southside Primary Care Network (PCN) and the City of Edmonton.

Le petit Plaisir d’apprendre
Le petit Plaisir d’apprendre is a series of educational presentations and discussions, presented by videoconference via the Zoom platform.
Initially designed to meet the need for transition from our activities during confinement, this program has proven to meet many of the needs of seniors.
It helps to…
- Break isolation during the long winter months;
- Bring together members from different regions, helping to strengthen community ties;
- Offer new and original content;
- Enhance the value of digital tools as an everyday ally.
In your words
“Exciting. Bravo for the always fascinating topics of activity and thank you so much!”

Online activities
The Seniors Online program was set up in 2020 in direct response to the COVID-19 pandemic, which led to imposed health measures isolating seniors from carrying out their daily activities within FAFA-affiliated groups; many affiliated groups were closed or limited in their activities.
The Seniors Online program kept them active and engaged. Programming was diverse to offer options for all interests. The format took the form of online workshops through the Zoom application, with speakers from various backgrounds living in Alberta, Quebec, Ontario and France.
In parallel with the programming, FAFA set up a tablet loan service, enabling seniors without access to technological devices to access these activities.
A total of 20 tablets were distributed between Edmonton and Calgary.
